Description
Waxing Moon, photographed by the British astronomer Andrew Ainslie Common (1841-1903). The Moon is said to be waxing when it is increasing in apparent size. Observations of the Moon with telescopes started with Galileo in 1610, and then developed further during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries as telescopes improved. Towards the end of the 19th century, the first proper photographs of the Moon were taken by combining camera and telescope technology.
