Description
Newton's rooms at Trinity College, Cambridge. Newton's rooms were in the range between the Great Gate (right) and the Chapel (left), on the first floor above the entrance (centre). Isaac Newton (1642-1727) entered Trinity College in 1661, gaining his degree in 1665. He then left Cambridge to avoid the bubonic plague. On his return, in 1667, he was elected a Fellow, taking up residence in these rooms, and in 1669 was elected Lucasian Professor of Mathematics. Whilst at Cambridge, Newton wrote Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica", probably the most influential science book in history. In 1701 Newton left Cambridge to take a post at London's Royal Mint."
