Artist's Description

Varanosaurus, illustration. This synapsid lived around 280 million years ago, during the Early Permian. It is thought to have looked similar to modern monitor lizards. It reached lengths of around 1 to 1.5 metres. The early synapsids, such as this pelycosaur synapsid, are sometimes described as mammal-like reptiles.
