Description
Ugo Fano (1912-2001), Italian-US theoretical physicist, leaving a Drosophila seminar. Fano worked at the National Bureau of Standards until 1956 and then joined the University of Chicago. His most famous work was in quantum mechanics on what is called the Fano resonance (1961). He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences (1976) and a Foreign Member of the Royal Society (1995). Photographed in 1940.
