Description
Tungurahua volcano. Time-exposure image of the Tungurahua volcano, or the Black Giant. This active volcano is in Archidona, Ecuador. It is 5023 metres tall, and has a crater width of 183 metres. Tungurahua last erupted in 1944. Its lava is largely composed of basalts, and is rich in silica, iron and magnesium. The trails of light above the volcano are caused by the movement of stars across the sky as the Earth rotates.
