Artist's Description

Illustration of a Redondasaurus skeleton on a dried riverbed during the Triassic-Jurassic extinction. This mass extinction event marks the boundary between the Triassic and Jurassic periods, 201.3 million years ago. At least half of the species known to have been living on Earth at that time became extinct in the space of less than 10,000 years. 34% of marine genera disappeared. On land, many reptiles, early mammals and large amphibians died out. It is unclear what caused this mass extinction, but climate change, asteroid impact and volcanic activity are all possibilities.
