Description
Tower of London, historical artwork. The Tower of London is a castle in London, on the northern banks of the River Thames. It is a palace and fortress, most famous for being used as a prison. It was founded in the 11th century during the Norman Conquest, but was expanded during the 14th century. Access to the fortress was across the moat, which is seen here between the river and the outer walls. This artwork was published in volume 2 of 'The Pictorial Field-Book of the Revolution' (1850–1852) by the US historian Benson John Lossing (1813-1891).
