Description
False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the dirty collar of a pure cotton shirt. The woven cotton threads, which themselves consist of many sub- threads, are almost completely coated with grease, grime, & skin flakes from the person's skin. Compare with H120/041 which shows the same piece of collar after it has been washed in a washing machine. Magnification: x16 at 35mm size. Reference: MICROCOSMOS, figure 9.5, page 177.
