Theophilus Shickel Painter (1889-1969), US geneticist and zoologist. Painter carried out pioneering work identifying genes in fruit flies, as well as early studies of human chromosomes. Photographed at the Marine Biological Laboratory, Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA.
