Artist's Description

Test tower for Trinity Test atom bomb, 1945. The Trinity Test atom bomb, known as 'The Gadget', was placed on top of a 30-metre tall tower. This atom bomb was the first detonation of a nuclear weapon, carried out by the US Army on 16 July 1945 in New Mexico, USA. It was developed as part of the Manhattan Project at the Los Alamos Laboratory. The core consisted of a cylinder of uranium with plutonium and beryllium inside.
