Tahiti (the island at right) is some 45 kilometres in length, and consists of two volcanoes joined by an isthmus. The island at upper left is Moorea. These islands are located in the southern Pacific Ocean, and are part of a larger archipelago called the Society Islands. Politically, they are part of French Polynesia. Image data obtained by the Landsat 5 and Landsat 7 satellites.
