Artist's Description
Sydney, true-colour satellite image. North is at top. Built-up areas are grey, vegetation is green and water is blue. Sydney is the capital of New South Wales State, and is the most populous city in Australia. The main part of the city lies between Port Jackson (blue, upper right) & Botany Bay (lower right), to the south of Port Jackson. Both of these are inlets of the Tasman Sea. The runways of Kingsford Smith International Airport extend into Botany Bay. The Prospect Reservoir is seen at upper left. Image taken on 12 October 2001 by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection (ASTER) radiometer on board NASA's Terra satellite.
