Description
Stone instrument. 19th-century artwork of an ancient stone instrument found buried in the ground on a sugar plantation the island of Dominica in 1800. Made of granite, it was described in a letter by physician James Clarke, who speculated that it might be of Charaibes (Carib) origin, or produced by other indigenous peoples of the Caribbean. Published in Volume 15 (1806) of 'Archaeologia', the journal of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
