Description
Stick insect. Close-up of a stick insect camouflaged against the trunk of a tree. Stick insects (order Phasmida) are active by night and remain motionless throughout the day in imitation of twigs or leaves. This type of mimicry of plants is called phytomimesis. Some stick insects are also able to change colour, assuming a light colour during the day and a darker one at night. Photographed in the Amazon Rainforest, Ecuador.
