Description
Starfire Monument at Star City, Moscow. The monument consists of an idealised male figure holding aloft a sunburst symbol. Star City was established during the Soviet era as a place to house and train cosmonauts. It was isolated from the rest of the country, and access was tightly restricted to authorised personnel. There are many monuments in and around Star City, commemorating the exploits of the Soviet Union's space program. The city also includes a museum of space travel and human exploration.
