Description
Staphylococcus epidermidis. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria (green) embedded in an exopolysaccharide matrix (purple). These Gram-positive cocci (spherical bacteria) are found on human skin. They are usually harmless, but are able to form biofilms on plastics and so can cause infections around medical devices such as catheters and drips.
