Top down view of a square spot rustic moth (Xestia xanthographa) resting on a branch in a garden habitat. The flight period is August and September with a single brood each year. This species is a member of the Noctuidae family and is found throughout the UK, Europe and the palearctic ecozone. The larval food plants are a range of grasses and low plants. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in August.
