Description
Spiral galaxy (NGC 7331), optical image. This galaxy is located around 50 million light years away from Earth in the constellation Pegasus. It is similar in shape and structure to our own galaxy, the Milky Way, though at 130,000 light years in diameter it is slightly larger. The blue regions in the spiral arms indicate areas of star birth, whereas the yellow core is dominated by older stars. The large fuzzy blobs in the background are other galaxies, around 10 times further away.
