Fluorescent light micrograph of a section through spinal cord tissue from a mouse, used as a model of neurodegeneration. Researchers use these models to study early events that underlie the onset and progression of neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Parkinson's disease.
