Description
Spelt wheat (Triticum spelta) grains on a scoop. Spelt is a type of wheat and was one of the first grains to be grown. It contains more protein than the modern bread wheats, and is high in fibre. It is a covered wheat with a tough husk around the grain. This protects it from insects, allowing a reduced use of pesticides. It is more suitable for some wheat allergy sufferers than modern wheats. It is used in the organic and health food markets.
