Description
A museum display comparing the size of spacecraft heat shields at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida, USA. The whole disc is 5m in diameter and depicts the size of the Orion heat shield: the lines depict the Apollo shield at 3.9m, Gemini at 2.3m and Mercury at 1.9m. Orion is designed to transport astronaut crews to lunar orbit and later to Mars, Apollo transported astronauts to the Moon and Gemini and Mercury operated in Earth orbit.
