South American coati foraging on the ground. South American coatis (Nasua nasua), also known as coatimundis, are native to most South American countries. They are a member of the racoon family and live both on the ground and in trees, typically in forests. Coatis are omnivorous and primarily eat fruit, invertebrates, other small animals and bird's eggs. Photographed in the Pantanal, Brazil.
