Commercial forestry. Harvested timber with Sitka Spruce trees in the background. The Sitka Spruce, Picea sitchensis, is a fast-growing species popular in commercial forestry, and its wood is used in carpentry and for making oars. This kind of forestry, where a single species of tree is grown to maximize profits, has been much criticised for lack of concern for ecological diversity.
