Description
Image of Asia and the western Pacific Basin. The colours in the land areas depict different types of terrain: at the top of the continent is pale Arctic tundra, below this the light green of the Russian steppes. A broad band of yellow shows the deserts of Asia such as the Gobi, bounded north and south by mountains. Dark green on the southern coast shows the fertile flood plains and forests of south-east Asia. The white speckled area above this is the Himalayan mountain range. Just off the coast above centre is Japan, whilst at bottom centre is Australia. This photograph is a simulation of space-based imagery.
