September 11 attacks flight paths. Map illustrating the flight paths of the four passenger aeroplanes hijacked by terrorists and used in the attacks that took place on 11 September 2001 in the USA. American Airlines Flight 11 (red) and United Airlines Flight 175 (purple) were both Boeing 767 aircraft that departed from Logan Airport in Boston at 07:59 and 08:14 local time. They impacted the North Tower (08:46) and South Tower (09:03) respectively (the Twin Towers) of the World Trade Center in New York City. These towers later collapsed. American Airlines Flight 77 (orange) was a Boeing 757 that departed from Washington Dulles International Airport at 08:20, and was flown into the Pentagon near Washington DC at 09:37. United Airlines Flight 93 (green) was a Boeing 757 that departed from Newark International Airport at 08:42, crashing into a field in Pennsylvania at 10:03. A total of 2996 people were killed in the attacks.
