Scanning electron micrograph of the scales on the body of a silverfish Lepisma saccharina, a primitive wingless insect of the order Thysanura. Silverfish are nocturnal insects. They live in damp places since their skin offers little protection from drying out. They are particularly fond of kitchens where they feed on groceries, paper & glue.
