Scanning electron micrograph of (SEM) Maldon Sea Salt (Maldon Crystal Salt Co Ltd, Maldon, Essex) out of the packet. Sea water contains 3.6% dissolved salts, of which 75% is sodium chloride. Other constituents include calcium chloride and magnesium chloride together with traces of other mineral salts. These other salts, together with mechanical handling during manufacture, are responsible for the imperfect crystal forms seen here. Magnification: X 7 at 35mm size, X 50 at 8x10-inch size.
