Description
Scanning electron micrograph of a fabric woven from nylon and Lycra. The nylon forms the large chain-like vertical component of the weave, whilst the Lycra is seen in the thinner, criss-crossing lines between the nylon. Lycra is the trademark of an elastane fibre produced by DuPont. It is a synthetic fibre with highly- elastic qualities, and is used in clothing designed to fit closely to the body (such as swimwear and sports clothing). The material seen here comes from a pair of cycling shorts. Magnification x80 at 8x10 inch size.
