Artist's Description
Sciaena aurata fish. This drawing was made by the German naturalist George Forster (1754-1794) during Captain James Cook's second voyage of discovery (1772-1775). Forster and his father were employed as naturalists on this voyage, replacing Joseph Banks who had been on the first voyage. During the voyage George Forster completed 271 zoological and 420 botanical illustrations. The illustrations now form the Forster Drawings Collection at the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
