Scarab beetle antenna. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the antenna of a scarab beetle (order Coleoptera, family Scarabaeidae ). The family Scarabaeidae as currently defined consists of over 30, 000 species of beetles worldwide. The antenna is covered in sensory hairs, which are able to detect movement and smell. Beetles have two antennae positioned on their head between the eyes. Magnification: x100 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
