Description
A flight model Saturn 1B rocket on display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida, USA. This type of rocket was used in the 1960s to launch the early Apollo spacecraft into low Earth orbit to test systems before going to the Moon. The first stage is at left (with the words United States on it), then the second stage (USA), a conical fairing that carried the lunar module, the cylindrical Apollo service module and conical command module (crew capsule) and a launch escape tower on top. Also visible in the image are a Saturn V F-1 engine and a crew-access swing-arm from a launch pad service tower with white room and mock-up Apollo capsule.
