NOT FOR USE ON POSTCARDS OR CALENDARS Fractal geometry. A computer graphics image entitled Royal Coil. The image was derived from the Mandelbrot Set, a group of complex numbers plotted using their real & imaginary parts as coordinates. Each point is assigned a colour depending upon its behaviour under a series of simple but repeated mathematical operations or mappings. Such 'chaotic' operations may be used to model real-world phenomena such as stock market prices, population dynamics and fluid interactions.
