Description
Royal Albert Hall. Elevated view of the main auditorium of the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK. This auditorium is used to host a wide range of events, most notably the annual Proms season (of promenade concerts), held in the summer. It has the capacity for 7000 people. The domed ceiling rises over 40 metres above the floor. The structures hanging from the ceiling are acoustic diffusing discs (made of fibreglass), designed to reduce sound echoes inside the auditorium. The building was opened in 1871, and is dedicated to and named after Prince Albert (1819-1861), the consort and husband of Queen Victoria (1819-1901).
