Description
Roy Chapman Andrews (1884-1960), US explorer, standing with his wife Yvette Borup on a dockside next to a ship. Andrews, who married Borup in 1914, is best known for his explorations of China and Mongolia in the period 1916-1930, where his expeditions discovered fossilised dinosaur eggs in 1923. His wife accompanied him on the early expeditions as official photographer, but they divorced in 1930. In 1934, Andrews became director of the American Museum of Natural History. It is said that the character Indiana Jones was based on Andrews. Photograph from the Bain News Service.
