Description
Part of a naturalistic polychrome stucco panel from a house in Pompeii. The panel depicts a theatre stage and was meant to evoke the facades of royal palaces of the Greek world, the setting of many myths and classical plays. The ceiling beams show an early attempt at rendering spatial perspective on a flat surface. Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli.
