Artist's Description

Robotic muscle. Dr Yoseph Bar-Cohen holds an artificial robotic muscle he is researching for NASA. This muscle uses electrostrictive polymers (ESP), which contract under the application of an electric current. It is hoped muscles such as this will find uses in robots to be used in space and other areas where precision is required but which are hostile to humans. Bar-Cohen works at JPL, based in Pasadena, California, USA.
