Artist's Description

Robot doll eyes. Eyes of Robota, a robotic baby doll. The eyes can react to and follow movement. Other sensors allow the robot to react to movement, sound and touch, as well as computer and joystick commands. Robota is controlled by an artificial neural network (ANN), enabling it, for example, to link mimicked movements to melodies to produce a dance response to music. It can also learn simple sentences in about 15 minutes. It is hoped that Robota will be used as an educational toy, and also in the study of learning and autism. The doll was created by Dr Aude Billard of the Robotics Lab of the University of Southern California, USA.
