Description
Ringed kingfishers (Megaceryle torquata) on a branch. This is a couple: the male is at left, the female, which has a pale chest bar, is at right. This kingfisher inhabits wetlands in South America, perching above lakes and slow-moving rivers looking for fish, which it dives on and catches with its large bill. It can reach a length of up to 45 centimetres. Photographed in the Brazilian Pantanal.
