Description
Fabric computer keyboard. Researcher Maggie Orth holding a square of fabric which acts as a keyboard. Fabrics such as this may be integrated into wearable computer systems. This keyboard" is made up of two sheets, each containing alternating strips of conducting and non- conducting fabric, arranged at right angles to each other. The sheets are separated by a layer of soft insulating fabric. Holes in the insulating layer allow the conducting strips to come into contact when pressed. Wires carry the resulting signals to the keyboard encoding circuitry. This keyboard may be folded, crumpled and even washed. Orth is a student at MIT Media Laboratory, USA."
