Artist's Description

Republic P-47 Thunderbolt in flight. The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, nicknamed 'Jug', was one of the most famous United States Army Air Forces (AAF, the precursor to the US Air Force) fighter planes of World War II. Although originally conceived as a lightweight interceptor, the P-47 was developed as a heavyweight fighter. It's first flight was on 6th May 1941.
