Description
Red knots (Calidris canutus) in their winter plumage. These shorebirds are on passage to the south of England during their migration from Greenland. An adult Knot can grow up to 26 centimetres in length with a 47-53 centimetre wingspan. Knots feed on spiders and arthropods during the summer but their diet changes in winter to hard-shelled prey including bivalves, gastropods and small crabs. Photographed in September, in the Highland Region, Moray Firth, Scotland, UK,
