Description
Red deer stag bellowing. Dominant male red deer (Cervus elaphus) bellowing during the autumn rut. The red deer is the UK's largest native land animal, with the male (stag) standing nearly two metres tall. The red deer is a herbivorous ruminant, grazing on vegetation. The rutting season, which takes place in the autumn, is when the stags (male deer) compete with each other for breeding rights over a herd of hinds (female deer). The stags will bellow and roar at each other, and will also engage in battles using their antlers. Photographed in Richmond Park, London, UK.
