Artist's Description
Queen Nefertari and Isis. Wall painting in the tomb of Queen Nefertari. It portrays Queen Neferati (left) presenting scrolls to the Egyptian god Thoth. In Egyptian mythology, Thoth is the inventor of writing and a scribe to the gods. He is depicted as a man with the head of an ibis. Neferatri was the first wife of the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II. Her tomb is located in the Valley of the Queens, Thebes, Egypt and is considered the best preserved and most ornately decorated of all known tombs. It was rediscovered in 1904 by the Italian archaeologist Ernesto Schiaparelli, but has been closed to the public since 2003.
