Description
Plastic television screen. View of a prototype of a plastic television screen only 2 mm thick. The screen is made of a plastic known as a light emitting polymer (LEP). It is showing its inventor Dr. Jeremy Burroughes, the director of technical development at Cambridge Display Technology (CDT), Cambridge, England. The device is being held by Dr. Julian Carter, a colleague of Dr. Burroughes at CDT. LEPs are polymers which emit light when a voltage is set up across them. They are flexible and easy to manufacture and can be chemically tailored to produce light of any wavelength. LEP displays unlike liquid crystal displays can be viewed from any angle.
