Description
Prehistoric decorated pebble, discovered in Malta. The pebble has been worn very smooth, and has a biconical perforation used for suspension (such as on a piece of string). The stone has three vertical incisions and one horizontal incision. The meaning of this sign is not certain, but it could have represented a temple structure. This artefact was found at the Tarxien site. The Tarxien site dates from around 3100 BC. Photographed at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta, Malta.
