Description
Predicted fishery catch changes by 2050. World map of projected changes in the amount of fish caught due to climate change. It is expected that the distribution of fish stocks will change due to ocean temperature changes. The colour-coding shows reduced fisheries catch in orange and increased catches in blue. The shift will be towards cooler, temperate and polar waters, away from the tropics. Fisheries catch is expected to increase in the Arctic as sea ice melts. The Antarctic catch will decrease as the fish there are less tolerant of temperature changes. This data is based on a 2010 study (Cheung et al.) that examined 1066 harvested seafood species.
