Description
Pollution warning sign for a drain. The warning forbids the dumping of waste water into this drain because it drains into a lake. Polluted water can damage fragile lake ecosystems and kill fish and other wildlife and plants. Motor oil waste is a common example of illegally dumped waste. Cleaning products can also be toxic. Heavy metal waste can accumulate in fish populations and poison humans who eat the fish. Untreated sewage can infect the lake with bacteria. Run-off from garden fertiliser products can cause eutrophication. Photographed in Brown Deer, Wisconsin, USA, near Lake Michigan.
