Description
Pollution over Asia. Computer artwork showing the pollution-filled brown clouds over Asia. Soot particles in the clouds absorb heat from the Sun, warming the lower atmosphere. This warming is contributing to the melting of the Himalayan glaciers, which feed the rivers that provide fresh water to billions of people. The Himalayan glaciers are the third largest ice mass on the planet.
