Artist's Description

Pioneer 11 launch. Pioneer 11 spacecraft launching on top of an Atlas-Centaur rocket at Cape Canaveral (now Kennedy Space Centre), Florida, USA on 5 April 1973. This unmanned spacecraft, also known as Pioneer G, was the first to fly past Saturn and only the second to fly past Jupiter (after Pioneer 10). It was equipped with visible, ultraviolet and infrared imaging instruments. Images of Saturn from Pioneer 11 revealed two new moons and a new ring.
