Description
Pillars of Creation, James Webb Space Telescope (JWST, right) and Hubble Space Telescope (HSTM, left) images. These towering columns are formed of interstellar hydrogen gas and dust. They are part of the Eagle Nebula (M16), a region of active star formation located 6500 light years away in the Serpens constellation. Bright red areas are newly formed stars that have collapsed from material within the pillars. The more powerful JWST is able to penetrate further into the pillars to unveil more stars. Images captured by JWST's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) and HST's Wide Field Camera 3.
